“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You!”            Isaiah 26:3

Twelve-year-old Merina* lived in a village in northeastern India. She has five brothers and sisters, but she is the youngest. Sadly, her father made their life scary because he would yell at Merina’s mother and hit the children. Merina’s mother was so scared that she abandoned her children and ran away from her husband. Now Merina and her siblings had no one to protect them from their father. They were scared and miserable.

Her uncle found out what was happening and let Merina and her siblings live with him, but he did not have enough money to care for six more children. He didn’t know what to do, so, after discussing the situation with his family, they decided to ask the village chief. The chief turned to the Sapodilla Children’s Home (run by Mukti) for help.

For the first time in Merina’s life, she knows what it’s like to live in a safe and secure place. Merina is emerging from the trauma and slowly opening up to others. At the Sapodilla home, she has made friends with the other girls and likes to spend time with them. She has learned that she is good at music and loves to sing new songs. Merina is in the 4th grade and takes her studies seriously. One day she wants to become a doctor and make people well.

We pray that Merina realizes her dreams and ambitions.
