The Orchard Project Approach

Born into poor, remote villages, many children know nothing but the day-to-day struggle for even their most basic needs. Mukti Mission seeks to change all that. Transportation, hospitals, and stores are virtually non-existent within their spheres. Schools are distant from their homes so most never dream of going. One adequate, nourishing meal a day can be rare.

Adults are simple laborers that seek daily-wage jobs. Sometimes even those subsistence-level jobs cannot be found. They worship spirits and idols. Although they are uneducated and illiterate, parents long for their children to be educated. There simply are no schools within a reasonable distance.

As Mukti enters these villages to bring aid and true hope, some begin to grow interested. When the children come, they are provided safe, clean shelter, clothes, and nutritious meals in an Orchard Project home. House-parents care for them and teach them hygiene, healthy habits, and discipline. They begin to share with them as they introduce stories and songs. They are taken to school and given tutoring to advance their learning. These children are the first in their families to receive an education! Wonderfully, many of the children from our Orchard Projects excel at their schools.

On extended school holidays, the children return to their villages and families. As positive, healthful changes become obvious in the children’s lives, parents' and neighbors’ curiosity is peaked. As the house-parents continue to visit the families offering counsel and help, and further hope, many respond with sincere thanks and openness.
